Quantum Teleportation (Theory)

1993
PhysicsQuantum MechanicsAlgorithmfoundational

Bennett, Brassard, Crepeau, Jozsa, Peres & Wootters' 1993 protocol for transmitting an unknown quantum state using a shared entangled pair plus two classical bits -- the origin of "teleportation" as a serious physics term, not a popularization of an earlier idea (bare term tested completely clean pre-1993 via OpenAlex noise test).

    basis: reasoned

Photonic Quantum Computing's own anchor year (2001) coincides with Knill, Laflamme & Milburn's (KLM) landmark linear-optics quantum computing proposal -- the scheme that first showed photons could support universal quantum gates despite not naturally interacting with each other. KLM's method worked by teleporting a gate operation (a probabilistic CNOT) onto photon pairs, built directly on Bennett/Brassard/Crepeau/Jozsa/Peres/Wootters' 1993 teleportation protocol. Chronologically clean (1993 theory precedes the 2001 anchor by 8 years), unlike the Adiabatic QC edge on this same innovation family.
