Top Quark

1995
PhysicsQuantum Field Theory & Particle PhysicsEmpirical Resultfoundational

Joint discovery of the top quark by the CDF and D0 collaborations at Fermilab's Tevatron, announced March 1995, completing the third generation of quarks predicted by the 1973 Kobayashi-Maskawa model. CDF's 1994 "evidence" paper preceded this as a preliminary, non-definitive claim -- not the discovery itself. Companion D0 paper: OpenAlex W1525067064. Note: OpenAlex initially surfaced a near-duplicate, near-uncited CDF record (W3208541762, 3 citations) before the canonical 1,493-citation record below was found -- the same fragmented-record pattern the Basic subsystem's claim-evidence pilots have repeatedly documented.
