YBCO Superconductor
1987PhysicsCondensed Matter / Materials PhysicsEmpirical Resultfoundational
Discovery of superconductivity at 93K in an yttrium-barium-copper-oxide compound (Wu, Chu et al., 1987) -- the first superconductor above the 77K liquid-nitrogen boiling point, making practical (cheap-coolant) superconductor applications possible for the first time. Direct successor to Bednorz & Muller's 1986 La-Ba-Cu-O discovery; modeled as a child of High-Temperature Superconductivity via parent_node_id, the same pattern used for Adam/SGD.
